Workshop Overview

The Medication Administration Course is a one-day workshop that educates personal support workers and nurses about handling and delivering medications safely to clients. The Medication Administration Course prepares students to deliver medications safely to clients. This course focuses on understanding relevant legislation, protocols, and procedures for accurate medication administration. The students will also learn strategies and procedures for documentation to prevent errors.
The Personal Support Worker in their day-to-day routine and job, requires administration of medicine to their patients and clients and thus a single day workshop equips them with the much-needed knowledge related to the medicine administration.  The workshop will prove to be amazing for those health care professionals who are in one way, or another are responsible for managing, storing, or administering the doses of medicines.
 

About Workshop

The workshop allows the Personal Support Workers to learn about the 5 basic principles of medicine administration more commonly known as the 5R’s in the medical jargon. These 5R’s greatly helping to reduce medication error. The medicines if used properly in the right quantity are a boon to humankind and if the same medicine is used incorrectly, can prove to be fatal leading to a mild headache to even death. Thus, the 5R’s are to be taken care of while administering the medicine to any patient. These 5R’s are as follows: Right Patient, Right Drug, Right Dose, Right Route, and the Right Time. These 5R’s have enabled the nurses and medical staff attended to perform their tasks diligently.

Learning Outcome of Medication Administration Workshop for PSW

After the successful completion of the single day Medication Administration Workshop the participants would be able to demonstrate the following:

• Identify and understand any violation of the 5R’s of the Medication Administration.
• Read and identify the medication prescription and the dosages.
• Understand how to manage and store the controlled drugs.
• Understand how to carefully dispose of the medicine which is not to be used.
• Understand how medication administration errors can be prevented.
