Course Description:A 2-day workshop that provides theoretical and supervised clinical instruction in the provision of basic foot care which restricts footcare to non-invasive measures. Emphasis will be on identification and early recognition of foot problems requiring further assessment and referral to other regulated care providers.
Pre-requisites:
Certificate in Personal Support Worker. Nursing Student
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the workshop, participant will be able to:
- Exhibit knowledge in basic nursing footcare practice.
- Integrate the knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology of the foot and lower leg in the early identification of foot problems.
- Demonstrate the ability to assist registered nursing staff in obtaining a holistic foot health assessment of the client.
- Provide basic footcare interventions within the scope of PSW role and the policies and procedures of the agency or facility.
- Refer clients needing further assessment and interventions to Registered Nursing Staff. Physician, Foot
- Refer clients needing further assessment and interventions to Registered Nursing Staff, Foot Physician, Specialist/Chiropodist, and other disciplines.
- Instruct clients regarding foot health maintenance.
